Motherwell are set to strengthen their squad in the coming days, according to chief executive Alan Burrows.

Preparations are already underway at Fir Park as the club looks to improve on two cup finals and a seventh-place finish in the Ladbrokes Premiership this season.

Stephen Robinson's side punched above their weight this campaign by reaching the finals of both the Betfred Cup and the William Hill Scottish Cup, but Burrows says they will not be looking to rest on their laurels and are keen to improve on their squad - but conceded there would not be a mass turnover.

"Last year we were all of the understanding that there was going to be a fairly large turnaround in the squad and a lot of players were coming round to the end of their contract, and Stephen Robinson had an idea about how he wanted to shape the squad and the types of players he wanted to bring in," he told the club website.

"We were prepared for a high turnover, but this year you will see far less of it.

"Six of the first team squad have already renewed their contracts in Ryan Bowman, Cedric Kipre, Charles Dunne, Richard Tait, Andy Rose and Liam Grimshaw, and out of the contracted first-team players, only three players are leaving (Russell Griffiths, Deimantas Petravicius and Ellis Plummer).

"This summer will be about fine tuning and trying to improve in little areas rather than wholesale changes to the playing staff, and that's where most clubs want to be.

"The manager and I to try and address one or two areas in the team.

"We are very close to getting a couple of them over the line."

He added: "The key for any club is that when you have some success on or off the pitch, you don't rest on your laurels and become complacent.

"We need to make sure that after a good season at the club, nobody inadvertently or subconsciously puts their tools away."
