ALAN STUBBS is set to be named the new manager of St Mirren, Herald Sport understands.
The Paisley club have whittled down their shortlist to four candidates, with Stubbs now the frontrunner to land the role ahead of Gary Caldwell, Jim McIntyre and Coleraine boss Oran Kearney.
The St Mirren board met today to make a final decision on their preferred candidate, and hope to make an appointment by Monday at the latest.
Former Celtic defender Stubbs was named manager of Hibernian in 2014, succeeding Terry Butcher following the club’s relegation to the Championship and guiding them to second-place, only to lose to Rangers in the semi-finals of the play-offs.
They were defeated by Falkirk at the same stage the following season but later managed to overcome Rangers at Hampden to win the Scottish Cup for the first time in 114 years. Stubbs left for Rotherham that summer, but his tenure lasted only two months, winning just one game from 14 before being sacked by the English Championship outfit.
He is keen to get back into management and impressed the St Mirren board when interviewed for the manager’s role earlier this week.
