HIBERNIAN head coach Alan Stubbs wants his team to build on the resilience they showed against Ross County last week when they face Rangers at Ibrox tonight.

Dominique Malonga's brace of goals gave Hibs a morale-boosting 2-0 League Cup victory over the Premiership side in Dingwall to set up a quarter-final clash with Dundee United.

Stubbs said: "It's now important that we build on last Tuesday's result.

"I would say that was our most commanding performance when we have been in the lead.

"We defended much better, whereas in other matches we have been a bit sloppy and given teams an opportunity to get back into the game.

"Against Ross County we defended much better as a team. We got bodies behind the ball and got some important blocks in when we needed to.

"There are other elements to the game than just playing good football. You have to roll your sleeves up, win 50-50 challenges and win your individual battles.

"On other occasions so far this season there has probably been some room for improvement in those areas."

Hibs go into tonight's game in second-bottom spot in the league, with only six points from six games. But a win at Ibrox would lift them to fifth.

Hearts continue to lead the way in the Championship. They stretched their lead over Rangers and Raith to six points yesterday with a 5-0 win over Livingston at Tynecastle.

Soufian El Hassnaoui blasted home the opener from 18 yards after 14 minutes before Jamie Walker added the second on the half-hour mark.

Swedish frontman Osman Sow made some amends for his midweek penalty miss at Celtic Park by netting the third goal for the Jambos two minutes from the break.

Hearts continued to dominate in the second half but had to wait until three minutes from time to add a deserved fourth goal through substitute James Keatings.

And there was still time for Sow to grab his second goal and Hearts' fifth to send the vast majority of the 14,848 crowd home happy.
