ALBION ROVERS took a significant step towards the SPFL League Two crown with a 2-0 win over title rivals Arbroath.

Darren Young's side went into the re-arranged Gayfield clash a point clear in the fourth-tier standings after a hat-trick of wins over Berwick Rangers, Annan Athletic and Montrose in recent weeks.

And the Coatbridge club extended that advantage as they gave themselves breathing space over the Red Lichties with a crucial league triumph that moves them eight points clear of Allan Moore's men.

Albion were ahead inside four minutes as Ally Love lobbed keeper Marc McCallum to get Young's side off to the perfect start.

And the visitors extended their lead just after the hour mark as Gary Fisher clinched the points, netting at the second attempt to give Rovers a huge triumph.

Next up for Albion is a trip to Hampden this weekend as they face second-placed Queen's Park in another title shoot-out.

With just seven games left this term, the Cliftonhill outfit are now four points clear of QP and victory at the National Stadium would put them within touching distance of a place in League One.
