ALBION ROVERS manager James Ward has signed a new deal which will see him remain at the club next season.

Ward led the Cliftonhill side to the quarter-final of the William Hill Scottish Cup where they pushed Rangers all the way before losing 2-0 in a New Douglas Park replay after a fighting 1-1 draw at Ibrox against the League One champions.

Chairman John Devlin said: "Albion Rovers FC and our support have experienced a truly unforgettable run in this season's Scottish Cup which has provided some amazing footballing moments and has also delivered significant financial benefit to the club.

"In confirming the management position at this early stage we intend to provide stability and continuity that will enable a constructive pre-season and strengthen our challenge for next season's campaigns."

Devlin revealed that Robert Watt and Frank Meade have departed the board.

He said: "I can advise that, after many years of distinguished service, Robert and Frank have both decided to take a step back and retire at the end of this season.

"Robert and Frank both served the club as directors and also had their respective periods in the chairman's seat.

"They both stepped forward almost a decade ago when Albion Rovers was in a precarious financial position and they were instrumental in establishing a solid foundation for the ongoing operation of the club.

"During their stewardship the club has stabilised and has experienced some real highlights including most notably the promotion season in 2010/2011.

"They both leave the board with the club in a far healthier condition than when they joined it.

"On a personal basis, I have worked as a board colleague with both Robert and Frank for the past six years and would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their very considerable contribution.

"I wish them well for the future. They both deserve appreciation and a well-earned rest!

"Moving forward we will now be actively seeking new appointments to the board and the general management of the club over the coming weeks and months."
