TONY ANDREU has played down speculation over his Hamilton future after he was linked with a move to Norwich this month.

The midfielder has been Accies' star man, and has been tipped to follow former Lanarkshire boss Alex Neil to Carrow Road.

Andreu is under contract until the end of next term, but he is unlikely to be short of suitors after a superb few months in his first Premiership campaign.

The French star insists he is happy where he is, however, and is focused on his football as he takes the transfer talk in his stride.

He said: "For me, Alex was a really good coach. After I left Livingston, he called and asked me to come here.

"He trusted me and he was also a good person. He lifted me up in my level of performance. Last year I played better than ever before. I improved with him and I thank him for that.

"Now we have to move on, but I was delighted to work with him and I wish him well where he is now.

"Until now nothing has happened. I'm here and I want to play for my team-mates and the club. That's all.

"If something happens, we'll see. It would be a big thing to play in the English Championship, but I am a long way from thinking about that. All I'm thinking about is the game against Celtic tomorrow.

"I definitely want to give my best for this club. I have improved a lot here and I've played well in the last couple of months.

"I want to stay and see what we can achieve. Everyone wants to play at the highest level, but I'm here."

Andreu has been an integral part of Hamilton's success as they have defied the odds and created history in the Premiership.

The former Livingston midfielder has turned in a number of eye-catching performances and currently leads the scoring charts with 12 strikes to his credit.

Andreu said: "I didn't expect to be here at the start of the season. There's a long way to go. It would be amazing, but I don't focus on that. I'm a midfielder, so I don't think I have to score every week. I'm not like that at all.

"Scoring 16 goals last season was my highest tally, and now I'm not far from that. I used to score every year as an attacking midfielder, but I'm not focused on that.

"I just want to play well for the team, but I do enjoy scoring. I'd be delighted to finish top scorer, but I'd be fine if I wasn't.

"At the start of the season I thought 'I scored 13 in the league, so maybe I need to score 10 in the Premiership'. I've surpassed that target now."

Hamilton were beaten in Martin Canning's first game in interim charge on Monday night as Dundee United edged a five-goal encounter at New Douglas Park.

Victory over Celtic tomorrow would take Accies level on points with Ronny Deila's side, and Andreu is determined to continue proving the doubters wrong.

He said: "The top six would be amazing. All of the players within the group have improved on last year.

"We have to thank the coach, because Alex helped us to improve our game, our fitness, everything. We expected to play well in this league.

"Maybe not everyone outside the club thought that, but we did. We want to play better in every game. We can't settle for being okay. That's why we are where we are."
