ANDY BARROWMAN has been fortunate enough to feature in a Scottish Cup final during a well-travelled career.

And the striker is hoping it will be lucky club 13 this time round as he hopes to lead Morton into a prolonged and prosperous cup run.

The Cappielow club saw off Airdrionians 2-0 on Tuesday night in a third-round replay to tie up a trip to face Spartans later on this month.

Barrowman, who netted both goals against the Lanarkshire club, is no stranger to cup success having made it all the way to the 2010 showpiece against Dundee United.

While the memory of that 3-0 defeat is not something he savours regularly, the 29-year-old warmly recollects that legendary surge from the Staggies including the 2-0 win over Celtic in the semi-finals.

And the striker is keen to enjoy yet another sustained spell in the oldest cup competition in the world with Morton this season.

"We've already played Spartans at the start of the season. It was a tough game and we just beat them 1-0," explained Barrowman, who made Ton his 13th club after joining in the summer from Livingston.

"I actually got injured after 29 minutes so hopefully it will be a bit better for me this time round.

"They are here on merit though so we need to go there and apply ourselves properly.

"I was in the final with Ross County at the end of a great cup run. I've also won the Challenge Cup.

"It was a brilliant occasion for me, although really on the day we didn't really perform the way we could have. I think I actually have fonder memories of the semi-final against Celtic.

"It was great to be there and when my career is finished I'll probably think about it more than I do now.

"Just now the season just rolls on and before you know it you're playing Airdrie again!"

He may jest, but familiarity is something which could breed frustration among supporters of both clubs.

This Saturday's SPFL League One game at the Excelsior Stadium will be the fourth time the teams will have squared up to each other this season, with at least another two other clashes still to come.

"It can be difficult," said the ex-Birmingham City man. "You're coming off the pitch saying 'See you on Saturday' to the other team. It's a bit of banter, but how often does the cup throw these games up?

"It's an important game on Saturday so we need to take the same result."

On the basis of their recent form, you would not bet against them.

Jim Duffy's men are riding high after beating table-toppers Forfar 2-0 at the weekend and currently sit just one point off the pace as Gary Bollan's Airdrie languish just two points above the relegation play-off spot.

And with midfielder Joe McKee and forward Declan McManus due to return to the Ton line-up, Barrowman admits a positivity is sweeping the Cappielow camp.

He said: "The league is the priority but it's great to build a bit of momentum now we have gone four games unbeaten.

"We're trying to build consistency, it's maybe something that has let us down so far.

"Winning breeds confidence, especially in a young team. We all can't wait to get back in and go again."
