STUART McCALL has urged his Motherwell side to deliver an action replay in Aberdeen tonight to kick-start a charge up the Premiership table.

The Pittodrie clash comes five months after Well pipped the Dons to second spot in the league with a dramatic Craig Reid goal in the final seconds of the 2013-14 season.

But the Steelmen have had a shocking start to this term and return to the north-east in second-bottom place.

Now McCall wants his team to take inspiration from their famous victory in May to grab three vital points, even if the performance is not pretty.

The Fir Park boss said: "I've watched the last two minutes of that game a thousand times but never watched the whole game again until this week.

"We defended really well, which we'll need to do again, but we didn't play particularly well. The bottom line was the result and that might have to be the case again tonight.

"Going to Pittodrie will be difficult but it might be the kick-start we need."

Three consecutive league defeats have sent Motherwell tumbling down the table.

But McCall's sure his squad can get out of their rut.

He said: "The message is 'stick together and dig deep'.

"I've been involved in bad runs like this before. It might take an own goal or debatable penalty to get out of it.

"But I have great belief in the players. We have leaders in our dressing room. Season after season they have shown character and great quality.

"I think it's time for us all to stand up and be counted. We can't be scared of losing, we have to relish the challenge of being winners again."

The Well gaffer added: "I hate losing, so this bad run is difficult. As the bags under my eyes show, you sleep less and your mind is always on it.

"It's all about how quickly you can get out of the run. It's a test of character. You just have to believe in yourself."
