Midfielder Jason Holt revealed his Hearts team-mates were determined not to be relegated by city rivals Hibernian following their 2-0 win yesterday.

Defeat at Tynecastle would have sent Hearts down from the SPFL Premiership, but they were in control once Dale Carrick netted after seven minutes.

While they did ride their luck at times - Jordan Foster had what should have been an equaliser incorrectly ruled out for offside - boyhood fan Billy King netted his first Hearts goal in stoppage time to seal a result which allows his club to postpone the drop, if only for another week.

"It's a massive win," Holt said.

"All the talk was about Hibs coming here and trying to relegate us. We knew inside that dressing room that was never going to happen. We're just glad to come away with a massive victory.

"Of course, we're never going to let Hibs relegate us and we've done that. We've had a great performance so we're delighted."

Hearts boss Gary Locke dedicated the win to the club's fans after a difficult campaign.

"That was a result for our supporters. They've stuck by us all season," he said.

"One thing we didn't want is for Hibs to come here and be the team that put us down.

"The fans have had to put up with a lot this season. Hopefully they are happy tonight.

"Unfortunately, probably, it is a bit too late for us."
