MOTHERWELL caretaker manager Kenny Black will be interviewed tomorrow for the chance to become the club's permanent manager.

Stuart McCall's former No.2 is part of a six-man shortlist who are being interviewed for the post which has been vacant for over a month now.

Two candidates met with the board on Friday while a further two hopefuls are being spoken to today.

Black, the man who has been in charge of Motherwell since McCall's shock departure on November 2, will meet with Fir Park officials tomorrow.

In his first game in charge the Steelmen recorded only their third win of the season in a 1-0 victory over Dundee United.

Since then Well have lost to Inverness, United again and most recently Celtic, however, the manner of the performances in the latter two has given cause for optimism among fans that the team's poor start to the season can be corrected.

One of the men thought to have been interviewed already is former player Rob Maaskant. The Dutchman played for Motherwell back in the early 1990s, but latterly has been coaching at FC Groningen, Dinamo Minsk and Columbus Crew.

And it is understood another former player, Mitchell van der Gaag, is also on the shortlist.

The fact the club are hoping to appoint a new manager before Saturday's game with Ross County will give encouragement to supporters that their fan ownership bid is within reach.

Well chiefs had previously said any decision over McCall's successor was being put on hold while the future of the Lanarkshire institution was still to be decided with the Well Society attempting to raise enough funds to take control.

And while a South American consortium had spoken to club bosses about a potential takeover, it appears a deal with the Society is closer than ever to being pushed over the line.
