CLYDE coach Bob Malcolm has challenged his Bully Wee stars to continue matching the high standards they have set themselves so far this summer.

The Cumbernauld club beat Ayr United 2-0 in the Petrofac Training Cup last weekend to give new player-boss Barry Ferguson a winning start in the dugout.

Championship side Cowdenbeath make the trip to Broadwood on League Cup duty tomorrow before Clyde kick off their bid for the League Two crown next week.

Malcolm said: "The boys have set their own targets and their own standards in training and the pre-season games.

"We had a good start against Ayr last week and then the performance dropped in the second half and the boys were disappointed with that.

"They know what standards they have set and they dipped below it.

"Myself and Barry have spoken at length about the squad and we are more than happy with the group we have got just now.

"We are maybe a wee bit light because a couple came in on trial and left. We have gone from 22 players to about 18.

"So there could be space to bring in one or two but if any do come in they will have to be better than the ones that are playing at the moment."
