JIM Duffy faces a keeper quandary for Morton's Petrofac Training Challenge Cup tie against Spartans on Saturday.

The Greenock chief has rotated stoppers Derek Gaston and Nicolas Caraux in his pre-season games so far.

Gaston enjoyed 90 minutes of game time against Rotherham while Frenchman Caraux was between the sticks in last weekend's Renfrewshire Cup Final defeat to St Mirren.

But Duffy knows he has a decision to make for this weekend's competitive curtain-raiser.

He said: "For our open-doors games, I always had it in my mind to give both goalkeepers a run-out.

"Derek started against Rotherham and did well. Nico played against St Mirren on Saturday and made a couple of great saves in the first half.

"They were very, very tough matches and both players acquitted themselves well, so I've got a decision to make as the season approaches."

Meanwhile, Ton midfielder Joe McKee refuses to read into pre-season results after last year - but believes Saturday's performance against Saints offered encouragement for the season ahead.

He said: "It's disappointing losing, especially the way we did with a goal with about 10 minutes to go.

"There were a few heads down in the changing room after the game, but the most important thing is the season and the performance was encouraging."
