KEITH LASLEY says Motherwell are now fighting fit and ready to get their season back on track this weekend.

The Steelmen will head to Dingwall to face Ross County with only one SPFL Premiership win under their belts so far this season.

That was a 1-0 victory over St Mirren on the opening day of the campaign. But it was followed by four defeats in a row before Well's injury-hit squad limped into the international break.

However, skipper Lasley is confident the two-week spell without a game has given the Lanarkshire outfit a healthy shot in the arm.

It has allowed those who haven't been fully match-fit to get up to speed, while long-term absentees Steven Hammell and Simon Ramsden are closer to making a return to the team.

Lasley said: "The break has given time for guys to recover from knocks. We have regrouped, we've worked hard and we're now looking forward to the game on Saturday. Hopefully the guys who have been out injured will be back.

"It might still be quite close but they are definitely a lot nearer to being back than they were before the break.

"It has given us an extra couple of weeks to recover. The manager will take it day by day to see who is available but it's been a big help.

"The rest of us who are fit have put in some hard work over the past week."

The Motherwell squad worked up a sweat without their gaffer Stuart McCall, who was in Germany as part of Scotland manager Gordon Strachan's coaching staff.

But Lasley insists there was no slacking from last term's runners-up with assistant Kenny Black in charge.

"It's good for us we have a guy who is as experienced as Kenny who can take charge of things when the gaffer is away on Scotland duty," he explained.

"I can assure you that he works us just as hard! But the value of having a good management team is that nothing really changes in training."

Motherwell face a difficult task if they are to kick-start their season in Dingwall, but it's a challenge Lasley is sure his team will be ready for.

The Staggies go into the match under the stewardship of new boss Jim McIntyre and his assistant Billy Dodds.

Former Queen of the South manager McIntyre made the switch from the Borders to the Highlands after Derek Adams was sacked following County's dismal start to the campaign, with five losses in their five games to date.

Lasley admits Well's own opening spell has not been what those around Fir Park were hoping for before the league season got under way.

But with a busy run of games coming up over the next four weeks, he is determined to go into the next international break in better shape than the first one.

The club captain added: "It has not been the best start from us in terms of results and performances.

"I think the break probably came at a good time as it's been fairly well documented that we've had a few injuries that hampered us.

"Hopefully it means we will be ready for a very difficult game against Ross County under their new manager.

"Dingwall is a hard enough place to go to at any time. It will be a pretty busy schedule for us between now and the next international break.

"We have a lot of league games coming up as well as a League Cup third-round tie at Hamilton. It's a busy time, but we need to get better results in these games than we did before the last break."
