JAMES MARWOOD is determined to hit the ground running in Paisley and win the hearts of the St Mirren faithful.

After making his Buddies bow in the 1-0 win over Albion Rovers in midweek, the striker is in line to play for Tommy Craig's side when they face rivals Morton in the Renfrewshire Cup final this afternoon.

The Saints head to Cappielow aiming to reclaim the silverware they lost to the Ton in Paisley 12 months ago as they continue their preparations for the new Premiership campaign.

Craig's side will also face Cowdenbeath, Blyth Spartans, Whitley Bay and Carlisle United before the big kick-off as the new Buddies boss looks to make an instant impact.

Marwood enjoyed an impressive season with Gateshead last time out as he helped them reach the Conference play-off final at Wembley.

And now he is eager to shine in Scotland as he settles into life north of the Border ahead of the big kick-off next month.

Marwood said: "In my last games for Gateshead, I played in front of 20,000 fans and two 10,000 crowds.

"Like most players, I prefer playing in front of big crowds, it really gets you going.

"I understand people will be querying whether I am good enough to come up to this level and it is up to me to prove them wrong.

"I spoke to the gaffer and the directors and they said as long as you give 100% every week then the fans will love you.

"If you can get a few assists on goals on top of that then you are on the right road to be a success at this club and that is what I am aiming to do."
