KEITH LASLEY has urged Motherwell to make a good campaign a great one by beating Inverness at Fir Park tonight and taking their second-place bid to a dramatic last day denouement at Aberdeen.

A point against Caley Thistle will guarantee European football for the Steelmen for the sixth time in seven seasons but securing all three would send the Steelmen to Pittodrie with a winning momentum.

It would also mean confidence would be high that Stuart McCall's cut-price side can beat the clear budgetary superiority of the Dons to claim their second consecutive top-flight runners-up slot.

Las said: "All things considered, when you look at the fact we lost something like eight players last summer, to be sitting third with two games left to play makes it a very good season.

"What we have to do now is to try and make it a great one and that means taking the fight for second place to the last day and going up to Aberdeen to win.

"But it is an unbelievable stat that we could qualify for Europe for the sixth time in the last seven years if we can get that point tonight.

"When you consider we are a provincial side and also look at the size of our budget and then compare it to the other sides in the top six, we really have punched above our weight for a few years.

"Obviously the manager deserves great credit for that but first and foremost we have to get over the line against Inverness tonight. So you focus on the next 90 minutes and look no further."

The Fir Park favourite dismissed the suggestion that Caley Thistle have nothing to play for and will find motivation hard to come by.

Lasley said: "John Hughes has come in and he is putting his stamp on Inverness and he will be making his plans for next season. So his players will be aware that if they want to be involved they need to finish this campaign as strongly as possible.

"On top of that we have played Inverness twice recently and beaten them on both occasions and they were two really tight games. So you can bet that Yogi will have them well up for this one and determined to get the win they possibly felt they deserved the last time they played us."

The Well skipper has no doubt about the importance of his side's victory over St Johnstone last time out.

Las said: "We took a real sore one off Dundee United and we needed to regroup badly against St Johnstone and thankfully we have done that. So we have a strong platform to build on and we are determined to do just that and take this thing to the wire."
