JAKE CAPRICE hopes to emulate the success of Paul Dummett after signing on loan with St Mirren until the end of the season.

Dummett benefited hugely from a similar deal last year, arriving at the Paisley club as a fringe player with Newcastle United reserves and joining their first-team on his return after a full season of football for Danny Lennon's side.

The left-back made his Barclays Premier League debut away to Manchester City in the first game of the season, then played in Newcastle's Capital One cup win over Morecambe on Wednesday night.

Now Caprice hopes coming on loan to St Mirren can provide him with a similar springboard, the 20 year-old Londoner coming north from Blackpool.

"It was the opportunity of regular first-team football in the Scottish Premiership that persuaded me to come to St Mirren," he said.

"I spent a week on trial before I signed and I liked the set-up and the philosophy the manager has about the way he wants to play football.

"Those were both things that appealed to me.

"I think Alex Rae, the Blackpool assistant manager, spoke to the manager about me and said he felt it would be useful for me to go out on loan.

"I need to get games under my belt and this is a good way to do that, and at a good level.

"I saw what Paul Dummett managed here last year and now he's in the Newcastle squad so it would be fantastic if I could do something similar.

"Every loan player wants to do well with their new club and hopes that their parent club will notice them doing that and keep them in mind when they go back.

"I'd love to emulate what Paul did and go back and push my way into the plans at Blackpool."

Caprice admitted it wasn't the easiest thing making his debut in extra-time of a cup tie, especially one that his team lost, but believes him and Saints can bounce back quickly.

He added: "It wasn't the best of debuts getting knocked out of the cup but it's a long season and there are plenty of more games to come."

The former Crystal Palace man believes his versatility gives Lennon options.

He said: "I'm a right-back but I can play there or on the right wing. I'm happy with either. I love to get forward from full-back as that's my strength."

Saints, meanwhile, are hoping to tie up the signing of Stephane Bahoken today.

"The 21-year-old Olympique Nice forward is expected to put pen to paper on a one-year loan deal and could make his debut in tomorrow's crunch league clash with Partick Thistle if clearance is received.

Saints have also freed Jon Robertson. The midfielder struggled with injuries after moving to the club last summer, playing just 18 times. He has rejoined former club Cowdenbeath.
