BARRY FERGUSON was pleased with the debuts of his on-loan Old Firm kids despite seeing Clyde slip to a narrow defeat to East Stirlingshire on Saturday.

The Bully Wee boss gave Rangers starlet Craig Halkett and Celtic left-back Aidan McIlduff their first starts for the club.

He also started veteran winger Andy Gibson, who signed from Beith, and Kilmarnock midfielder Euan Smith, who is also at Broadwood on a loan deal.

Despite seeing his team plunge to second bottom of League Two, Ferguson said: "We had two new boys at the back. Craig was excellent at centre-half and won everything.

"Young Aidan is only 17. I had been trying to get him for a few weeks and I thought he was good.

"They tired a bit as they are not used to that sort of intensity. But both were excellent. I thought Andy also played really well.

"Euan was in and out of the game. I expect a bit more from him but he knows that himself."
