MOTHERWELL full back Craig Reid is determined to go home from a match happy for a change tomorrow.

Last season's league runners-up have slumped to three defeats on the bounce since beating St Mirren at home in their opening fixture on August 9.

Now Reid is eager to lift the Lanarkshire gloom with a win over St Johnstone at Fir Park.

The Perth side will arrive on a high from beating Aberdeen last weekend on SPFL Premiership duty, while Well are looking for improvement from their 2-0 loss to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

But Craig has taken positives from that display and reckons this Saturday will be the day to kick-start their season.

The 28-year-old defender said: "It's not nice losing. You go home at night and can't stop thinking about the game. You then go over certain things in your head.

"But come the Monday, you need to start afresh and kick on and build for the next week.

"As a squad, we reflected on the Kilmarnock game, but spirits have been high. Certain aspects of our performance were good. I think we played some nice stuff.

"We were much better than against Inverness the previous week, when we didn't really get to grips with the game and were outplayed at times.

"It just needs one result to turn things round. Hopefully we can get that against St Johnstone."

More than 500 Motherwell fans travelled down to Ayrshire last weekend to give their team vocal backing throughout, despite the disappointing result.

A loud and passionate support has been a constant for Well this season since their first Europa League qualifying match against Icelandic side Stjarnan.

Now Reid wants to send those fans into the international break with something positive to shout about.

He said: "We need to start picking up points at home. And we don't want to be left thinking about another defeat for a fortnight. We want to go into the break on a positive note.

"If we can get the win against St Johnstone we can then concentrate on getting key players back before our next game.

"Our supporters keep coming out in their numbers and follow us everywhere, all credit to them. We need them to stick with us.

"It's been a while since we've been in a rut like this but hopefully that will stop against St Johnstone and our fans will have something to cheer about again."
