SCOTLAND hero James McFadden has signed for St Johnstone in a deal that will keep him at the Scottish Cup holders for the rest of this season.
The 31-year-old striker, out of contract since he left Motherwell in May, had been training with Tommy Wright's squad.
On Tuesday night he played for the Perth club in a second-string match against Aberdeen.
The former Everton and Birmingham City forward has been capped 48 times for Scotland.
Saints boss Wright said: "I'm delighted to have signed James.
"It's no secret that recent injuries have left us short of options up front. He brings a wealth of experience at the top level of the game and has the ability to provide us with that little spark.
"He has signed for the remainder of the season but that involves a little bit of a gamble on the part of both the club and the player.
"However, we've held very open and honest discussions with James. Both parties will review things in January.
"If it is working out for everyone he will be here until next summer."
