Darian MacKinnon will miss Hamilton's next four games after being hit with a ban for hitting out at Dundee United midfielder Paul Paton.

MacKinnon was sent off during Hamilton's 2-2 draw at Tannadice on Saturday after receiving two bookings in the first half of the Scottish Premiership clash.

But he has also now accepted a two-match ban instigated by the Scottish Football Association compliance officer for "violent conduct by striking an opponent with an arm or elbow". The incident occurred in the ninth minute of the game.

It is understood the SFA acted after receiving video footage.

MacKinnon was already due to serve a one-match ban because of his red card and receives an additional game on top of the two matches because it is effectively his second dismissal of the season.

The 28-year-old midfielder will miss the Scottish Premiership leaders' home game against Kilmarnock on Saturday plus two Lanarkshire derbies against Motherwell, including one in the League Cup, and a visit to Celtic Park.
