GARDNER SPEIRS hopes Queen's Park can bow out at Hampden in style on Saturday.

The Spiders play Peterhead this weekend in what will be their final game at the National Stadium before they relocate to Airdrie for the remainder of the SPFL League Two campaign and the opening weeks of the 2014/15 season while the Mount Florida ground is prepared for the Commonwealth Games.

Montrose will be the first visitors to the Excelsior Stadium early next month and gaffer Speirs is eager to claim one last Hampden triumph before his side hit the road.

He said: "It would be nice to win what will be our last game at Hampden for a while. We will give it our best shot and, hopefully, we can get the three points.

"We have played well in the last few games, apart from the first half against Stirling.

"There have been a few draws that we would have liked to have turned into victories but it wasn't to be.

"It has been an encouraging few weeks for us but Saturday is another tough game against a good Peterhead team.

"They are usually good games between the two of us and I am sure Saturday will be the same.

"It will be strange playing home games in Airdrie for the next few months but we won't use that as any kind of excuse.

"We know the playing surface and the surroundings there well. We will think about that when the time comes and we face Montrose in a couple of weeks.

"We have to concentrate on Saturday first of all and look to get back on track."

Queen's head into their Blue Toon clash this weekend still bottom of the League Two standings as they bid to haul themselves closer to a congested mid-table pack.

Speirs will be without defender Jamie Brough after he was sent off in their 3-0 defeat to Stirling Albion last time out.

And the Spiders boss admits their Forthbank reverse was a sore one to take as they gear up for the visit of Jim McInally's side tomorrow afternoon.

Speirs said: "It was another disappointing result for us last weekend at Stirling. There wasn't much in the game until they got the first goal and we obviously lost Jamie as well.

"In the second half, I thought we started well and had a couple of decent half chances and one great chance that we didn't take to get back in the game.

"We lost two late goals and came away with nothing. I don't think it was a fair reflection on the balance of play. It was a disappointing one for us.

"I think Jamie is out for two games. He certainly misses the Peterhead game on Saturday and that is a big blow for us.

"But we have players who can come in and we will get on with it.

"We want to get back on track and starting building a bit of momentum again so, hopefully, we can do that starting against Peterhead."
