GUS MacPHERSON hopes Queen's Park can keep up the momentum when they face Elgin City this afternoon.

The Spiders moved to within three points of League Two leaders Arbroath with victory over the Red Lichties last weekend.

And MacPherson is in good spirits ahead of the visit of bottom-of-the-table City to Hampden.

He said: "We have got to be buoyant after playing the way we did against Arbroath and, if we can do that again, then we will be pleased. It is a different type of challenge for us.

"We played very well against Clyde, but didn't win the game, so we can only try and maintain the standards that we have set and hopefully, if we create the chances, we can take them.

"Our training has been affected because of the weather and we have had to go indoors, which has been a bit frustrating. But we can't control that.

"I keep mentioning it, but the work ethic in the group is fantastic and that certainly stands you in good stead."

While there have been plenty of positives for Queen's so far this season, Elgin have struggled and find themselves two points adrift at the foot of the standings.

But MacPherson reckons it will only be a matter of time before they start climbing the table under new boss Jim Weir.

He said: "Jim has gone into Elgin and there has been a reaction, although it will have been frustrating for him with the games being cancelled at home.

"I know Jim and the way he works. I have been very impressed with him in terms of the success he has had at Arbroath and Brechin.

"It is inevitable that he will get a reaction from his players and they will pick up points.

"I certainly don't think they will be in the bottom position come the end of the season."
