MOTHERWELL'S future remains shrouded in uncertainty after hopes of a vital takeover update were dashed.

Fan ownership group The Well Society had hoped to inform their members tomorrow night on the status of their bid to take over the Fir Park club with just days left to raise their target amount.

Earlier in the year Well bosses had instructed the supporter-led organisation to raise £800,000 by the end of November, with the Society reporting earlier this month that figure has since increased.

A special general meeting is due to be held tomorrow night to elect a new group board member and it was anticipated news on their mission to take over John Boyle's shareholding would be shared.

However, Well Society acting chairman Brian McCafferty has revealed that won't be the case.

He said: "We were also hoping to be in a position to update members in detail on the Motherwell FC ownership situation, but this will not be possible.

"We know the ongoing uncertainty is hugely frustrating for members and other fans but, for legal reasons, and also because of signed confidentiality agreements, we will not be able to go into detail on what is happening.

"However, please be assured we are doing everything possible to achieve our goals.

"The situation is extremely delicate at the moment and we cannot do anything that would jeopardise our goal of ensuring the community is at the heart of a more financially stable future for Motherwell FC. There is too much at stake for us to prematurely say anything that would undermine the society's aims.

"We will organise another meeting in December when we can, and promise we will go into detail on what has been happening over the past months and what the likely future holds.

"We apologise again for the lack of clarity, and we share everyone's frustration, but our hands are completely tied."
