HULL City are to step up talks with Dundee United in a bid to agree a fee for left-back Andrew Robertson.
The English Premiership club are involved in protracted dialogue with United, having been unable to come to an agreement.
Tigers boss Steve Bruce had wanted a deal done in time for Robertson, 20, to link-up with his squad this week at their pre-season training camp in Portugal.
That now looks unlikely, with United having dug their heels in after banking £3m this summer from the sale of Ryan Gauld to Sporting Lisbon.
Robertson has also attracted interest from Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Southampton, but Hull are the favourites to sign him - if they can agree a fee.
The youngster made major strides at United following his move from Queen's Park, where he played part-time football, only a year ago.
He made his debut for Scotland against Poland in March and was named as the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year before appearing in the Scottish Cup final in the 2-0 defeat to St Johnstone.
