ST JOHNSTONE have released former Scotland striker James McFadden as manager Tommy Wright rebuilds for next season.

McFadden set up Chris Kane's goal in Saints' 1-0 win over Aberdeen which secured fourth spot in the Premiership for the Perth side and a place in Europe if Inverness Caley beat Falkirk in the William Hill Scottish Cup final on Saturday.

The 32-year-old ex-Motherwell man has struggled to get a starting place in recent weeks, and Wright said: "Faddy came in at an important time of the campaign and his experience has been a huge help to us both on and off the park."

As McFadden and right-back Gary Miller exit McDiarmid Park, former Preston striker Graham Cummins arrives on a one-year deal after loan striker Brian Graham opted to join Ross County.

Cummins, 27, was born in Reading, but brought up in the Republic of Ireland and joined Preston from Cork City in 2012.

He netted seven goals in 36 games for Exeter last season, and Wright told the club's official website: "I know quite a bit about him and he trained with us towards the end of the season and I want him on board.

"He scored a lot of goals for Cork City before a move to Preston North End, but he didn't play as much as he would have liked there."
