Kilmarnock manager Allan Johnston is hoping that an injury suffered by former Sheffield United defender Darryl Westlake is less serious than initially feared.

The full-back was carried off on a stretcher following a David Goodwillie challenge during Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

"He's to go for an X-ray. Touch wood it's nothing too serious," Johnston said.

"Obviously Goodwillie hasn't meant it, but it looked a clumsy challenge.

"Hopefully it's not too bad as we're already missing a number of players."

The weekend loss means Killie have now gone eight games without a win after a Peter Pawlettt strike earned all three points for the Dons who now site second in the top-flight table.

But Johnston is adamant his side deserved more from their visit to Pittodrie.

He added "It's a terrible run. The boys are working incredibly hard to try to turn things rounds as you can see from the last couple of performances.

"It's fine lines between success and failure.

"You could hear the Aberdeen fans starting to get on their back, they were frustrated, because our boys were causing them a lot of problems."
