KILMARNOCK manager Allan Johnston will assess the fitness of defender Ismael Bouzid and winger David Silva before finalising his January transfer plans.

The pair have only played seven games between them since signing short-term deals in September, but have been given until the end of the month to prove they are over recent injuries.

Johnston has continued to reshape his squad by extending loan spells for Celtic midfielder Jackson Irvine and Dundee United forward Michael Gardyne, while midfielder Barry Nicholson's contract has been extended until the end of the season.

Kyle Jacobs, Mark Stewart, Gary Fisher, Reuben Gabriel and Rabiu Ibrahim have all been released while Johnston has lost centre-back Darren Barr for two months because of a hip injury.

Johnston, whose team face Partick Thistle at Firhill tomorrow, said: "David actually picked up another knock yesterday and Bouzid is playing in a bounce game today. We will assess their fitness and make a decision on them.

"We might be able to bring in one, maybe two players hopefully. We have obviously freed up a bit of money but we are cutting back. But we still want a competitive team on the pitch."

When asked about his priorities, Johnston said: "It depends on Bouzid and David Silva's fitness, whether we look at a centre-half and a wide player.

"It would be nice to get a striker in as well."
