LEE Miller has watched his fellow Kilmarnock strikers get off the mark while he has suffered a false start to the season, but their success has only whetted his appetite.

Miller made his Killie debut as a late substitute in the League Cup win over Ayr on Tuesday after a calf strain delayed the start of his Rugby Park career.

The likes of Rory McKenzie, Robbie Muirhead and Josh Magennis have all hit the target this term as Killie look to replace the goals of the departed Kris Boyd.

And Miller feels the success of his colleagues will inspire him as he bids for more action against Scottish Premiership leaders Inverness.

"It's great to be back training and in amongst it," he said. "I got three minutes the other night and I thought I was outstanding! But it's great to be back, I'm feeling really fit and raring to go.

"There's a lot of competition for places, especially for the striker positions, and it bodes well for the club.

"If people are fighting for their positions then they will play their best. I'm no different, I want to play."

The former Falkirk, Hearts, Dundee United and Aberdeen striker is back in Scottish football after more than four years in England with Middlesbrough and then Carlisle.

He feels he is a better player for his spell down south.

"It's great to be back," he said. "I'm a lot more experienced. I've never had pace, so I've never had to rely on that.

"But I think my footballing brain gets me in positions I want to be in. And if I can help some of the young boys coming through as well then that's a bonus."
