MORTON defender Lee Kilday insists Saturday's title shoot-out with Stranraer will be just as big an occasion as his shot at the Championship crown last season.

He narrowly missed out on a winner's medal 12 months ago as, despite beating his current club 10-2 at New Douglas Park, Hamilton Accies were pipped on the final day of the campaign by Dundee.

This weekend, Kilday will look to help the Ton to a momentous win at Stair Park as Jim Duffy's side look to claim pole position in the title race.

Victory for the Cappielow club will take them two points clear at the top of the League One table with just 90 minutes of action left this season, and with Peterhead their final-day opponents in Greenock.

And Kilday knows it is all or nothing for Morton as they look to see off Stranraer and keep their noses in front of third-placed Forfar.

He said: "Everyone is really looking forward to it and we can't wait for the game. Training has been really good this week and everyone is flying. This is the biggest game of the season and one we all want to play in. If we win, we have got a chance of the title. If we get beaten, we are out of it but in the play-offs.

"You might not get a chance like this in your career again, so you need to make the most of it. It has been a really hard league this season. We are going out to win the game, so hopefully we can get over the line.

"We are well up for it and confident we can do it and get what would be a huge win.

"This is one of the biggest games of my career. It is just as big as the game against Dundee last year when Hamilton were going for the title.

"There is no room for error. It is a huge game for the boys and the club."

If Morton can emerge victorious in the first versus second battle, it will put them on the brink of a return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

The Ton have been in the title mix all season as the lead in League One has changed hands on several occasions and the promotion race has taken a series of twists and turns.

The finishing line and silverware are now in sight, though, and Kilday is confident Duffy's side can handle the heat at Stair Park in the 5.30pm kick-off.

He said: "The gaffer has been great this week as he has been all season. He is calm, he knows what he wants to do and he keeps everyone in good spirits.

"He knows it is a massive game for us, but he has kept the boys calm and kept preparations the same as they have been all season.

"It will be a big test for us mentally, and whatever team deals with the occasion the best will win the game.

"We have got a lot of experienced guys and players that have won titles like Peaso (Peter MacDonald) and Ross Forbes.

"They have shown they can deal with the pressure and I am confident the rest of the squad will handle it as well.

"Hopefully we will have enough about us on the day to win the game and get the three points."
