ALLAN JOHNSTON has urged defender Lee Ashcroft to make the most of his chance to shine for Kilmarnock.

The 21-year-old is set to deputise for Manuel Pascali against Dundee tomorrow as the skipper serves his suspension for being sent off against Celtic last week.

Ashcroft appeared 25 times for Killie last term but has struggled for game-time this time out as Johnston's side have impressed.

Now the Rugby Park boss is keen to see his stopper show what he can do once again.

Johnston said: "Pasca has been doing really well for us so he will be a big miss.

"But we have got guys like Lee Ashcroft who can come in and play in his place.

"Lee did really well for us last season, but this year has been frustrating for him as he's been left on the bench.

"That is part-and-parcel of the team doing well.

"Not everyone is going to get a game. But you have got to take your chance when it comes to you. Lee has got a great attitude, though, and he has made sure he has kept his standards up in training while he waits for his opportunity.

"He is going to be involved this weekend. But he needs to remain patient and make sure he is doing the right things if he wants to get back in the team more regularly."

After suffering a 2-0 defeat at Celtic Park last time out, Killie host newly-promoted Dundee tomorrow from a position just three points off top-of-the-table Hamilton.

Johnston's side were held to a 1-1 draw at Dens Park on the opening afternoon of the campaign in August but he is confident the outcome can be different this time out.

He said: "It was their first game back in the top flight and they had a big crowd that day who got behind them.

"But we are at home this time and it's up to us to make the most of our support."
