LOUIS LONGRIDGE is determined to break his Premiership duck for Hamilton after doubling his goal tally for the season in midweek.

The 23-year-old winger was on target as Accies eased into the third round of the League Cup with a 4-1 win over Alloa.

Longridge had earlier netted in the previous round to help Hamilton see off Arbroath.

Next up for the Lanarkshire outfit is the visit of managerless Ross County to New Douglas Park tomorrow.

And Longridge is eager to net for the first time in the top flight to add to his side's superb league start.

He said: "My position in the team requires me to create the chances for other players but, as a forward player, the onus is also on me to score.

"We can't just rely on our strikers like Mickael Antoine-Curier and Jason Scotland to do that. I have scored in the cup games this season, so hopefully I can now get my first Premiership goal and kick on from there."

Hamilton have soared to second in the top flight by winning three league games on the trot. But Longridge accepts he should have opened his Premiership account last week as Alex Neil's Accies shocked Partick Thistle at Firhill.

He spurned a chance early on when one-on-one with Jags keeper Paul Gallacher and admitted: "I had a look back at the TV highlights and it was an opportunity I should have put to bed.

"I said I should have scored it and the gaffer has said that too. Now that we've stepped up to the Premiership we need to take chances like that.

"There will be fewer opportunities in games at this level so we need to be a bit more clinical. I was delighted that when the chance came against Alloa I was able to put it in the back of the net."
