STUART McCALL insists Motherwell can take nothing for granted against Stjarnan tonight - and says Celtic's Euro struggles on Tuesday prove his point.

The Premiership champions could only win 1-0 in Iceland as they squared up to KR Reykjavic and now Motherwell will look to complete a double for Scottish sides at Fir Park.

A place in the Europa League third qualifying round is at stake as the Steelmen gear up for their Stjarnan test and look to end a poor recent run of form in continental competition.

Their Euro rivals are currently four points clear of the Hoops' Champions League foes in Iceland's Urvalsdeild standings but McCall is confident his side have what it takes to head into next week's second leg in control of the tie.

He said: "If you watched Celtic play, I'd say Reykjavik defended really well. I think Stjarnan possess a bigger threat going forward, they are the top goalscorers in their league.

"They beat KR Reykjavik 2-1 not so long ago. We're aware of their capabilities.

"My philosophy is to win the home game but we have to learn the lessons from our last European games here, when we were well on top and looking a threat but then teams have sliced through us and scored. So we might need a bit of patience.

"I'd be more than happy to take any kind of victory over to their ground because they have got lads who are capable in the forward areas.

"People are casting us as favourites but Stjarnan are unbeaten in the league after 11 games and won their last qualifier 8-0 - so I think it is finely balanced.

"If we're at the top of our game, I'm confident we'll get a victory."
