JOHN McGINN reckons St Mirren have been 'found out' this season as they brace themselves for the drop.

The Paisley club could find themselves officially condemned this weekend if Motherwell beat Hamilton on Friday and Saints lose to Kilmarnock the following day.

It is a decline which has been accelerated in recent weeks with several woeful performances, particularly against rivals Well and Ross County.

But speaking to SportTimes, midfielder McGinn confessed all campaign long St Mirren's stars have failed to shine.

"The season as a hole across the 30-odd games has shown the boys haven't been good enough and we've been found out. If we keep playing as we have been we deserve to be where we are.

"You could say we struggled to recover from poor start under Tommy Craig, but we've managed to do it in recent seasons. This time it wasn't to be.

"I don't think any individuals are to blame, I just think collectively we need to look at ourselves.

"The penny is starting to drop now it's too hard to come back."

There are several factors which Saints fans can point to as being key to their downfall.

The appointment of Tommy Craig last summer is one, the loss of captain Steven Thompson another.

Yet the choice of the board to sell prized asset Kenny McLean in January to Aberdeen for £300,000 is one that arguably rankles the most.

"I don't know what the finances were and if the board's hands were tied but I enjoyed playing with Kenny," said McGinn.

"He's a really good player and if we are going to lose guys like that then we're going to struggle.

"In saying that, it was up to the other boys to stand up and be counted and we've not done that."

Looking to his own future, out-of-contract McGinn admits he is unsure what the future holds for him.

He said: "My deal is up in the summer and there are a lot of boys the same.

"We weren't concentrating on contracts until we knew what division we were going to be in.

"I'll just keep playing away and see what happens."
