MICHAEL McGOVERN reckons Hamilton have landed the toughest draw as they bid for League Cup success at Pittodrie.

Accies face Aberdeen tonight bidding to record their second win of the campaign over the Dons and book their place in the last four.

Alex Neil's side have already taken a point at Tannadice and made history at Parkhead as they have stormed out of the blocks in the Premiership this term.

But keeper McGovern insists they don't come much harder than a trip to the north east as attentions switch to cup glory this evening.

He said: "There is no reason why Hamilton can't get to the final, but we have to get past Aberdeen. It is probably the toughest away draw we could have got.

"I am sure their players will be happy enough to get the draw at home to us.

"They will be looking to do what they did last year. It will be just as tough if not tougher than going to Parkhead.

"Obviously, we beat them the last time so they will be looking to put that right.

"I don't think it will have too much effect on the game, but it is the hardest fixture we could have got.

"It will be very difficult to win, but we have already shown we can beat them on the day."

Having all but achieved their aim of retaining their Premiership place after a stunning start to the season, Hamilton can afford to give the knockout competitions their full attentions this term.

McGovern is one of the few members of the Accies squad to have experienced the thrill of having a winner's medal round his neck.

And the former Celtic, Ross County and Falkirk shot-stopper is determined to relieve those magic moments once again.

He said: "It's different from being at a big club, it just means so much more. I was at Celtic and on the bench when we won the Scottish Cup a couple of times. But at a club of that size you are expected to win things.

"For us at Hamilton to progress in this cup would be a great achievement. I don't think the club has been in a semi-final for the best part of 40 years.

"It's another chance to make a bit of history. We have been doing well and breaking records this season so hopefully this is another one."
