MICHAEL MCGOVERN insists a hat-trick of league losses won't derail Hamilton's campaign.

Accies crashed to a 5-0 defeat to Partick Thistle on Wednesday night as their poor recent run continued following reverses against Dundee United and Celtic.

The visit of Inverness Caley Thistle tomorrow gives Hamilton a chance to get back to winning ways and take another step towards clinching a top six berth this term.

And keeper McGovern is confident there will be no major hangover as they get set to face John Hughes' side.

He said: "We're disappointed with the way we played and also with the result but we can't allow things to crumble and we won't.

"Over-analysing the situation is the wrong thing to do, in my opinion. We can't afford to dwell on this.

"There is a big game against Inverness at our place on Saturday and all we want at the moment is the chance to bounce back from this.

"It was always going to be a big game but now it's become massive for us. They're a good side but this is our opportunity to get back to winning and make everything positive again."

It was to prove a night to forget for Hamilton as they were swept aside by a free-flowing Thistle attacking line.

Kris Doolan bagged four goals before Nathan Eccleston added further shine to the scoreline for the Jags with a strike in the closing stages.

McGovern has been one of Accies' top performers this term but was helpless to prevent the goals flying in at Firhill.

He said: "It was just one of those nights. Their first goal looked offside to me and their third goal was 100% a hand ball - Doolan has handled it and then bundled it in afterwards.

"That's no fault of the referee - if he can't see it the he can't see it - but if he had seen it then it's a free-kick to us and the third goal was crucial.

"It was the turning point of the game. I'm not saying that we would have gone on to win it, though, because nothing went for us all night.

"We weren't good at any point but sometimes you get a scoreline like this during the course of a season.

"You generally get one performance like this and this was it. Even so, you've got to give Thistle some credit because they were excellent and they capitalised on our mistakes."

It has been a tough few weeks on and off the park for Hamilton as their form has suffered following the departure of manager Alex Neil.

Interim boss Martin Canning is set to be named as Neil's successor alongside Guillaume Beuzelin this afternoon and bring an end to the speculation over the Accies top job.

But McGovern insists the behind the scenes goings on are no excuses for poor performances on the pitch.

He said: "I don't think the uncertainty surrounding the manager's position played any part in that result. Everything has been going along nicely.

"Okay, we lost to Dundee United and Celtic but they're two top teams and we were unlucky not to get something from United in particular.

"But we played well in both games and training has been really good. What happened at Firhill was just one of those nights.

"I think that's the first time I've ever lost five goals: not a good night."
