CRAIG REID is hoping Morton can get the Kenny Shiels era off to a flying start at Cappielow tomorrow - and boost their bid to beat the drop.

The former Kilmarnock boss was appointed as Allan Moore's successor last Monday and will take charge of the side for the first time against Falkirk.

Shiels' only goal this term is to save the Cappielow club from Championship relegation after a poor start to the season that leaves them five points adrift at the foot of the standings.

Victory over the Bairns would be the ideal kick-start to their campaign, and defender Reid is confident Shiels can work his magic to save the Ton.

He said: "The manager is new in and we know results just haven't been good enough so far this season, so we are looking to change that as soon as possible.

"We are bottom of the table and we have to start winning games soon. He has got his own ideas and he is looking to get them across as quickly as he possibly can.

"He has pointed out things we need to work on and even things from last week's game. He is trying to get his ideas across to the boys.

"He has only been in a short time and we will be working hard to get it right as soon as possible. We do have good footballers and the manager has his style of play, but it is performances and results we need.

"The important thing is not how we play, but winning games to get us up the table."

Having collected just nine points from their 16 Championship clashes, Morton must find their form quickly if they are to avoid a hugely-damaging relegation to the third tier.

The Ton's battle to beat the drop is a far cry from last season when they went head-to-head with eventual champions Partick Thistle in the title race.

It has been a season to forget for the Cappielow crowd so far, but Reid is confident they can turn things around and maintain their place in the Championship.

He added: "A win gives the players a bit of confidence and, once that gets up, then the results change. The boys all know that we need to start putting points on the board.

"Winning games gives you a lift. Our performances have been okay at times, but we have not been getting the results.

"Up at Inverness, for example, it was never a 4-0 game. In the Dundee match, we played well and mistakes cost us, while Alloa only had a couple of shots and won the game.

"When you are down at this end of the table, you maybe don't get the breaks you do when you are at the other end. We are not getting results and there are things we need to work on, but we need that bit of luck at times.

"Maybe that one result will change things for us."
