STUART McCALL admits everyone at Fir Park must look themselves in the mirror after Motherwell were thrashed by Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton on Saturday.

The Steelmen suffered their second derby defeat in the space of three days as Accies eased to a 4-0 win to leave McCall's side tenth in the Premiership standings.

It has been a poor start to the campaign for last season's best of the rest and boss McCall said: "You can't take anything away from Hamilton, I thought they were terrific.

"We have got to have a good, long look at ourselves - me, the staff and a lot of the players. You can sometimes hold your hand up and accept when you get outplayed but when you get outfought, out-desired, everything...

"When you go behind to such goals it deflates you, but there are no excuses. They are far ahead of us, streets ahead of us at the moment and are playing like a team that has only lost one game this season.

"Fair play to the manager and the players because they were outstanding."

It was to prove an afternoon to forget for McCall as huge blunders from Zaine Francis-Angol and Paul Lawson saw Accies take a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Mickael Antoine-Curier sealed the win from the spot after Fraser Kerr brought down Louis Longridge, but McCall said: "I didn't think it was a foul at the time and I have seen it again.

"The only contact is outside the box. When I saw it in real-time I didn't think it was a penalty.

"I thought it was a coming together and it was about half a yard outside the box.

"By that stage it was 2-0 and we were fighting to get back in it. That killed it for us."
