ALEX NEIL is confident Hamilton are on the right track ahead of their Premiership bow despite their weekend loss to League Two side East Fife at Bayview.

Accies continued their warm-up for the big kick-off with a 1-0 defeat as Stevie Campbell netted the only goal after only 56 seconds.

Neil's side will now head south to step up their preparations and the boss said: "It was frustrating from our point of view but credit to East Fife, they worked their socks off.

"At this stage it is all about fitness and making sure our play is good, which it wasn't in the first half.

"We've had a limited number of games so I am not overly concerned. Once we get into our stride we'll be fine."

Meanwhile, new Clyde boss Barry Ferguson has added another player to his squad with the capture of former Scotland youth star Scott McManus.

The striker, who has been on the books of Celtic, Stenhousemuir and Stranraer, moved to Broadwood from Junior side Vale of Clyde.

McManus, 24, played for Scotland at Under-17 and Under-18 levels and has agreed a two-year deal with the Bully Wee.

Ferguson said: "I've known about Scott for a while and I asked a few people about him. They all said he could play at a higher level. We got him in for pre-season and he looked excellent in a bounce match.

"He's a bit behind in terms of fitness but he's going to be doing extra work over the next couple of weeks.

"He's a player who is always on the move on the pitch, he's busy and he always makes himself available.

"Scott is desperate to learn and I think he has a bright future if he keeps working hard.

"I'm really happy with my squad now."
