JAMIE POLLOCK reckons Albion Rovers have thrown down a title gauntlet by seeing off promotion rivals East Fife last weekend.

Darren Young's side were 2-0 winners at Cliftonhill as they got their League Two campaign back on track after a narrow defeat to Stranraer in the Scottish Challenege Cup. It has been a solid start to the season for Rovers and summer signing Pollock is confident they can have a sustained shot at the title this term.

He said: "It is important to win every game, but last week was massive after losing to Arbroath the previous week.

"Some people had East Fife as the title favourites before the season had started, so it was good to stamp our authority.

"We have a great bunch of boys who know what it takes. A lot of the squad have played at higher levels so there is no reason why we can't."

Having taken six points from their first three fourth-tier fixtures, Albion host Queen's Park this afternoon aiming to keep up the pressure on early pace-setters Arbroath.

Gus MacPherson's side acquitted themselves well as they lost 2-1 to Rangers in the League Cup on Tuesday night.

QP have won just one of their three league fixtures so far, but former Motherwell kid Pollock knows Rovers will have to keep their standards high if they are to see off the Spiders.

He said: "I think it will be a really tough game. I'm told that Queen's were very good against Rangers in midweek, so we know that we need to be at our best."
