JOHN SUTTON revealed that practice made perfect as he scored a wonder goal to fire Motherwell to victory over Ross County.

The big striker blasted home a superb left-footed strike after 54 minutes to add to Well's opener from an Iain Vigurs free-kick.

And though County pulled one back through Liam Boyce, the visitors held out for the win at the Global Energy Stadium.

Afterwards Sutton explained: "I work hard on my shooting during the week, making sure I try efforts with both feet.

"Then against County it just fell to me nicely on my left foot and I thought I would have a go.

"Sometimes they come off and it was great that this one did.

"It was nice to score, especially as, ultimately, it was the goal that clinched the game for us.

"I had another good effort in the first half that was just inches by the post but I'm sure nobody will remember that."

The 30-year-old frontman was delighted to return from Dingwall with all three points but admitted he and his Well team-mates still have plenty to improve on.

The victory brought to an end a four-match losing streak for Stuart McCall's men and doubled their points tally for the Premiership campaign.

Sutton said: "It was Iain's goal after half-time that got us going. It was a brilliant free-kick.

"It was important to get that first goal because we have struggled to score this season.

"I think we can play better but we will take the points for now and hope that we can get some momentum going.

"We haven't played well this season. There were patches when we did okay but we are still not where we want to be.

"Beating County is an important win for us but I don't think anyone at this club is satisfied about how things are going."
