SIMON RAMSDEN is well aware of where Motherwell's frailties are most badly exposed.

Having completed all of their 19 Premiership away fixtures, the Lanarkshire club have one just three of them.

Or, to put it more bluntly, they have lost 15, conceding on average just over two goals per game.

It is a grave concern for Well heading into the play-off final, especially given they have only managed to record a victory away from Fir Park once this calendar year.

Their latest away travail came on Saturday when an already-relegated St Mirren continued to sting those above them by recording a 2-1 win in Paisley.

Given Ian Baraclough's men are less than a week away from a trip to either Ibrox or Easter Road where a positive result could be crucial to their survival hopes, Ramsden knows it is a matter which needs addressed urgently.

"It's more the away form which has been a little bit of a concern," he told SportTimes.

"At home we have been pretty decent over the last while but we definitely need to address our away form going into the play-offs.

"Personally I can't put my finger on it why it's that much easier to win at home than away, it shouldn't be.

"But it's proving a problem with us at the moment."

Before they can think about enjoying a triumph on their travels, Motherwell must first deal with Partick Thistle coming to Fir Park tomorrow.

It will be the last act of a disappointing regular season, and Ramsden is keen to build up a head of steam going into next week, even if the result in league-placing terms is irrelevant.

"This weekend is about building momentum back up again," he said.

"After the St Mirren game the manager spoke to us about showing character and how it's about the next three games.

"I'm not sure what his plans are about going full strength or resting a few, but whatever team he puts out we need to gain confidence going into those two games because they are absolutely massive for the football club."

Ramsden added: "We are aware of whoever we come up against will have a lot of confidence because they will have gone through two ties.

"We need to make sure we are ready for them."

The Motherwell centre-half, one of over a dozen first-team players out of contract in a matter of days, was left angered after a late collapse in Paisley that saw Well lose two goals and get a man sent off in the final 10 minutes.

It is a malaise he knows must be shaken off quickly.

He said: "It was a bit of everything we were feeling after the St Mirren game to be honest.

"There was a lot of anger. If you go away and get beaten 3-0 or 4-0 you think 'What happened there?' but if you are 1-0 up with less than 10 minutes to go you are definitely kicking yourselves.

"There was a feeling of dejection because we threw it away. But we haven't got time for that now, we need to move on quickly.

"If we rest on our laurels the play-offs will come and go and that will be us. We need to make sure we are up for this now."
