DARREN YOUNG admits an early red card gave Albion Rovers the impetus for victory over Montrose.

Rovers went top of the League Two table with a 2-0 win at Links Park but their job was made easier just three minutes in when home keeper Stuart McKenzie was sent off for a foul on Ross McNeil.

It took until the half- hour mark for the visitors to take the lead as McNeil headed home Alan Reid's cross before Mark McGuigan clinched the points late on.

Boss Young said: "Sometimes these things go for you, sometimes they don't but we took advantage with a clean sheet and three points, although our second goal was against the run of play.

"It is very early in the season but we are all pulling in the right direction and must keep it up."

Elsewhere, Queen's Park got their second win of the season as Paul Woods netted twice in less than a minute to see off Elgin.

After Shane Sutherland opened the scoring, Woods turned the game on its head and QP gaffer Gus MacPherson said: "It was an outstanding display from us, especially after coming back from a crazy goal.

"We have waited a long time for a result like this and the standout guys for us were Paul and young Chris Duggan."

Meanwhile, Clyde have slipped to second bottom of the table after a 1-0 defeat to East Stirling.

Jay Doyle netted the only goal of the game before Ryan Frances saw red and boss Barry Ferguson said: "We dominated and could have won two games with the amount of chances."
