JAMES MARWOOD admits it has been a frustrating start to life at St Mirren as the Buddies toil in the final third.

Tommy Craig's side head into their crunch clash with Ross County on Saturday 10th in the Premiership standings and just three points ahead of the struggling Staggies.

A lack of goals has been the Saints' downfall on several occasions this season as boss Craig has been left frustrated at their poor points tally.

Marwood is without a goal in 10 games for the Paisley club following his move from Gateshead in the summer and is determined to hit the goal trail sooner rather than later.

He said: "We have been very up and down this season. We should have beaten Motherwell in the first game and we haven't won enough games since then.

"There were a few games where we didn't do so well. At the moment, I think we are doing okay but we are not putting the ball in the back of the net.

"It has been frustrating for me personally because I have only had a few chances.

"Once you get one goal, you are then off and running but it is about getting that first one for me at the moment.

"Last year I was used to winning every game, having chances in every game and scoring goals.

"Coming here, I am adjusting to a new league and new players but I am loving it. The lads here are great and the standard is good.

"When everything comes together and we are winning again I will be even happier."

After once again firing a blank in Saturday's defeat to Inverness Caley Thistle, St Mirren are gearing up for arguably their biggest game of the campaign to date this weekend.

Only a heavy defeat to Jim McIntyre's side would send them to the bottom of the top-flight table but any loss would be another blow in what has been a poor start to the season so far.

County make the trip to Paisley still smarting after suffering a 5-0 thumping at the hands of Celtic on Saturday and Marwood is eyeing a crucial victory to kick-start the Saints' this term.

He said: "They will be fired up for it, as will we, and it will be tough for them coming off the back of the result against Celtic.

"But there are no easy games in this league, especially when you are down at the bottom and you are competing against the likes of Ross County to try and get some more points on the board.

"A win on Saturday would give us a bit of breathing space. It is not quite the old six-pointer line but it would be good to get the points on the board.

"We were down there earlier in the season and when we got a couple of results it moved us up and things looked a bit more healthy. Hopefully we can put a few results together."
