TOMMY CRAIG remains in defiant mood despite watching his side slump to their fourth successive SPFL Premiership defeat against a rampant Dundee United.

Second-half strikes from Chris Erskine, Jaroslaw Fojut and Blair Spittal were enough to sink the Saints, whose inability to find the back of the net - they have not yet scored in the league - is causing major concern for the Paisley fans.

Craig, who was appointed in the summer taking over from Danny Lennon, bemoaned their failure in front of goal and stressed that his team have been unlucky so far this term.

"What is killing us is that we are not scoring goals," he said. "Frankly we are just not finding the back of the net and that is costing us.

"We had enough chances to win this match. Other than scoring, the lads are giving me everything, people on the outside looking in might think we have lots of problems, but if we keep playing the way we are we will eventually get some wins.

"I really think we have been very unlucky in all our games so far this season."

United manager Jackie McNamara was pleased with the victory, but also happy to admit that his team can play better. "I don't think the performance was a good as we can play, I think the scoreline flattered us a bit," he said.

"The second goal came at a good time, after we scored it we settled down and knocked the stuffing out of St Mirren.

"But we were not at our overall best in terms of fluency and possession today.

"For us finishing in the top three still remains our aim as well as hopefully winning a cup this season.
