JASON SCOTLAND was delighted Hamilton ended their barren run as they saw off Lanarkshire rivals Motherwell on Friday night.

Accies had gone 13 matches without a win under boss Martin Canning as they slipped out of the Premiership top six but finally had a reason to celebrate last week.

Goals from Scotland and Ali Crawford clinched a comfortable win for the hosts at New Douglas Park as Motherwell's survival hopes suffered another blow.

Victory for Hamilton keeps them five points clear of Partick Thistle in the Premiership standings as they look to finish seventh in their first season back at this level.

A trip to Kilmarnock is next on the Accies agenda this weekend as they bid for back-to-back wins and striker Scotland is eager to take the positives from their derby triumph into the remaining four games this term.

He said: "We got the run of the green and finished the chances.

"We were on top in the game early doors and I think that was the difference.

"It is a good three points for us because we haven't won for so long.

"It was a good result for us and a good performance as well so we are delighted.

"The performance at Tannadice was good but we didn't get a goal. If we get a goal, it gives us something to build on.

"We didn't get it [against United] but we got the early goal [against Motherwell] and we could build on it. We did well in the second half and got another goal.

"It was a good night and I am happy because we hadn't won for so long.

"We didn't make the top six but that is gone. We will try and do the best we can and get as many points as possible."
