DUMBARTON have suffered a defensive blow after Sheffield United recalled loan star Aaron Barry from his temporary Sons switch.

The Irishman penned a deal with Ian Murray's side in the summer and played what looks like being his final game for the Championship side in the 3-0 defeat to Dundee at the weekend.

Murray was keen to keep the defender, who has featured 22 times for the Sons this term.

But new Blades boss Nigel Clough has dashed his hopes of an extension.

Murray said: "It's unfortunate for us that Aaron has been recalled by Sheffield.

"His deal expires on January 3, and we did try to extend his stay, but it wasn't to be and all at the club wish him well back at Bramall Lane.

"We have a few things to sort out with the squad in terms of other loan deals we have both playing for us and those who are currently out to other clubs."
