DUMBARTON boss Ian Murray hailed his Sons stars as they halted league leaders Hearts in their tracks.

The Jambos dropped their first Championship points of the campaign as Murray's men battled their way to a goalless draw at the Bet Butler Stadium. It was a result to savour for the former Hibernian captain, who was delighted with his side's attitude and spirit.

He said: "It doesn't matter to me whether we are playing Hearts, Hibs or Rangers, I need to get points for Dumbarton regardless of who the opposition are. I always demand that we show the same application and work-rate.

"We were playing the league leaders and I thought the players were fantastic. We looked lively towards the end on the counter-attack.

"Chris Kane had a late chance for us that on another day he would have put away.

"But Hearts also had a chance late on when Sam Nicholson hit the bar."

In League One, Morton are now only one point from top spot after they came from behind to beat Airdrieonians.

Liam Watt struck early on to put the Diamonds in front at Cappielow.

But goals from Andy Barrowman and on-loan Rangers midfielder Robbie Crawford after the break then clinched all three points for Jim Duffy's side.

The Greenock gaffer said: "Airdrie scored a terrific goal and there is not a lot we could have done about that. Watt hit it as sweet as you like.

"We had a considerably better performance in the second half. We'd asked Robbie to affect the game a bit more.

"He certainly did that with the winner, which we're delighted about."
