Danny Lennon remains convinced St Mirren have what it takes to pull away from the relegation play-off position once the split comes into play.

The Buddies picked up a much-needed point in their battle to escape 11th place following a 2-2 draw in Inverness.

Jason Naismith's early strike gave St Mirren an ideal start, but Inverness had turned the game on its head by half-time through goals from Ross Draper and Greg Tansey.

The Paisley club, however, fought back in the second half and equalised through Sean Kelly before Caley Thistle had Josh Meekings sent off when referee Willie Collum deemed he had denied Josh Magennis a clear goalscoring opportunity.

St Mirren could not make their numerical advantage count and remain two points behind Partick Thistle, who occupy tenth place, although manager Lennon believes that can all change when the split happens after the last round of fixtures next weekend.

He said: "My main focus now is to make sure that we are prepared for Motherwell on Saturday. It presents another important game for us and gives us the chance to get three points ahead of the split.

"Then we will be facing the teams round about us in the table. I'm sure then that one or two teams will pull away from the rest and that is where our ambitions lie, to try and do that."

With Caley Thistle's rivals in the chase for Europe all failing to win, John Hughes felt it was two points dropped for his side, although he was encouraged by the play of Liam Polworth and Ryan Christie.

He said: "There's still a lot of work to be done, but a real positive was the performances of Liam and Ryan."
