JOHN McGINN insists he is in "no rush to leave" St Mirren despite the club chairman's recent comments that he has had his head turned by offers from elsewhere.

Buddies supremo Stewart Gilmour told a question-and-answer session with supporters that he was disappointed with the midfielder's advisors and felt he had been unsettled by another club - thought to be Sheffield United, where his brother Stephen plays.

The 19-year-old starlet's contract is set to expire next summer and his agent and the Saints have spent the last two days locked in talks with a view to agreeing an extension.

But it is understood that the offer on the table would see the Scotland under-21 cap still earn substantially less than many of his team-mates in the Paisley dressing room.

McGinn would not comment on the current contract talks but wanted to let the fans know he is not agitating for a move.

He told Times Sport: "Usually I just let my parents and representative handle that side of things, so I've not really been involved in it too much myself.

"I'm enjoying my football and I am happy to be at the club. I'm in no rush to leave.

"Hopefully they can all get something sorted."

McGinn and his team-mates will be back in action this weekend in the first instalment of a double-header against Partick Thistle. On Friday night Saints head to Firhill on league duty hoping to pick up their first points of the season.

And four days later they will return to the same venue in the League Cup third round.

It is the Premiership that is the priority for the Buddies at present and McGinn believes they are not far away from converting decent performances into vital points.

The midfielder admitted, however, that the time has now come for Tommy Craig's side to dig out a result, regardless of what it takes.

He said: "We have two pretty huge games coming up against Thistle, especially the one in the league.

"If we can win them both it would give the whole place a massive boost.

"I don't think we are too far away from getting things right.

"The manager has a clear view that he wants performances and results, as do the players here. But sometimes it doesn't work that way.

"It's got to the point that we need a result, even if we have to grind it out without playing particularly nice football.

"We'll be doing whatever it takes to get a result on Friday night. Even if we score in the first minute and hang on for a 1-0, we'll take that."

The midfielder admitted that in recent matches Saints have been wasteful in attack and too sloppy at the back.

He added: "The gaffer has said a few times that we're playing well. But we are not scoring enough goals and we're giving away soft ones at the other end.

"Unless we sort that out we are not going to get any points on board. That's something we need to address."
