HIBERNIAN boss Alan Stubbs has backed new Easter Road No.1 Mark Oxley to shine in Leith.

The 23-year-old keeper appeared as a trialist against Dundee United at the weekend and is in line to make his competitive bow in the Petrofac Training Cup clash with Rangers next Tuesday.

Oxley has completed a six-month loan switch from English Premiership side Hull City.

The trip to Ibrox is a daunting start for the young shot-stopper and his boss but the former Celtic star is confident Oxley is the right man to assume the gloves for his team for next season.

Stubbs said: "We are delighted to bring Mark to Hibernian.

"This loan deal has been in the pipeline for some time and it's great that we've managed to get it over the line."

Having been capped at Under-18 and Under-20 level for England, Oxley's potential is obvious.

However, with Scot Allan McGregor in safe possession of the first team gloves at Hull for the immediate future, it was felt the young goalie would benefit from the loan move to the capital.Stubbs added: "The move suits everyone. We were looking for a new first-choice keeper and Mark was looking for a fresh challenge and an opportunity to play regular first team football.

"He showed last season at Oldham that he is an excellent young keeper and his move here provides him with a perfect platform to continue his development. Everybody was aware filling this position was a priority for us and, after scouring the market, Mark was the stand-out choice.

"His arrival is another step in the right direction for us. We're thankful to our supporters for being so patient this summer.

"Hopefully they will be able now to see our new-look squad hit the ground running."
